Trade unions representing employees of Air France-KLM, badly perceived the appointment of Benjamin Smith as the new general director of the French airline. In addition, in the Netherlands, the pilots announced preparations for strikes due to working conditions. As reported by Reuters, against this background, shares of Air France-KLM fell on Friday by 4%. The unions accused the company of transferring control to the foreigner, since Smith had previously worked as chief operating officer in Air Canada. Since the beginning of the year, shares of the French airline have fallen by 36%. The agency notes that Smith will face serious labor conflicts in the company that acquired KLM in 2003, following which the companies continued to work independently.
