Britain’s withdrawal from the EU without a deal threatens the growth of Scotch whiskey exports, Reuters reports, citing the Scotch Whiskey Association. Brexit without an agreement will be the reason for the complication of trade between the EU and the UK and the increase in costs. The parties will lose the benefits of 50 million pounds in fees. Industry representatives are concerned about the change in labeling. If Brexit is completed without a deal, two labels will be needed when supplying whiskey from Scotland - one for the EU, the other for the UK. Double labeling of goods will require more costs. Whiskey exports from the UK brought 4.5 billion pounds in 2017. Whiskey ranks first among exported food and beverages. The next most popular items are salmon, chocolate and cheese.
