In the United States, there has been an increase in investment in recycling plants after restrictions on importation of waste paper and plastic waste into China in January 2018, the Associated Press reports. The resulting excess waste paper in the United States led to the expansion of paper mills. Due to the cessation of supplies of recyclable materials to China, a number of enterprises in the United States are refitting facilities for self-processing. In order to have access to scrap metal, plastic and waste paper, Chinese companies continue to invest in American waste processing plants. For example, the Chinese Global Win Wickliffe announced the launch of previously suspended production at a paper mill in Kentucky. According to the non-profit organization The Recycling Partnership, investment in paper processing plants in the United States over the past 6 months amounted to about $1 billion.
