The US consumer confidence index rose to 137.9 points in October from 135.3 points in September, the Conference Board data showed. The October index value was the highest in the last 18 years. Experts had expected growth rate to 136.4 points. Consumer attitude to the current situation in the American economy improved to 172.8 points from 169.4 points. The indicator, reflecting their expectations for the next 6 months, amounted to 114.6 points, having risen from 112.5 points a month earlier. The last two indicators have reached record levels since 2000. In October, 26.3% of Americans believe that in the next six months, business conditions will improve, whereas in the previous month their share was 25.8%. 24.7% of consumers count on income growth. A month earlier, they accounted for 22.5%.
