An opinion poll from Reuters that ran from the 1st to the 5th of August proved Joe Biden to still have the minorities' favor in the race for the Democratic presidential nominations. Results inform that 22% of Democrats and independents would still vote for Biden, a similar figure rendered in last month's poll. The same poll said 18% of left wing supporters opted for Sanders, an increase of 2% from July's poll.
On the other hand, the other 23 candidates didn't receive more than 9% in the poll.
Biden and Sanders largely differ in their platforms despite both catering to Democrats. Sanders gears towards the further expansion of government-run healthcare for all Americans; Biden leans towards allowing people keep their existing healthcare plans.
However, it must be noted that the positive turnout for Democrats may simply stem from the people's desire to defeat current President Donald Trump in the 2020 general elections, not from ideology.
The same poll informs that 36% of Democrats are just looking for someone who will prove triumphant. People who consider that someone with a solid healthcare to be an important factor in choosing a candidate only amounted to 11%; five percent (5%) say that someone with an environmental advocacy is pertinent.
Biden and Sanders are seen as the safest bets for defeating Trump among all Democrats. Over the past month, their standing considerably improved among minority opinion as both Twitter and the media saw how President Trump disparaged minority lawmakers, earning the chagrin of Democrats and the public in general.
Twenty-three percent (23%) of racial minorities identifying themselves as Democrats or independents said they opt for Biden. Another 23% rooted for Sanders. These figures had been an increase of 2 points for each candidate from July.
When asked regarding whom they think would be winning against President Trump in 2020, 33% of the minorities agreed on Biden while 19% went for Sanders.
The Reuters poll was done online in the English language for the voting population in the U.S. It sampled from 1,210 adults, including 483 racial minorities.
