Egypt is preparing to become a key exporter of energy resources in the region and beyond, Ahmed Heikal, chairman and founder of the Qalaa Holdings investment company, said in an interview with CNBC. He noted that this was facilitated by the discovery of new deposits and infrastructure, including terminals of liquefied natural gas in Idku and Damietta. The increase in gas production in Egypt allows the country to play a very important role as an energy center, especially in terms of gas exports. According to Reuters, Egypt wants to increase by 25% the attraction of foreign investment for the oil and gas sector in 2018-2019 to $10 billion. It is also planned to increase gas production in new fields. This hopefully allows Egypt to completely stop the import of foreign oil and gas by 2019.
