The French government plans to increase the environmental tax on airline tickets, starting in 2020, Deutsche Welle reported. The new environmental fee will vary from 1.5 to 18 euros, depending on the type of ticket. So, the tax for economy class tickets will be 1.5 euros. The economy class flight outside Europe will be taxed at 3 euros. The tax for business class flights will be 9 euros in France and Europe. Its size will increase to 18 euros outside the EU. These measures will add about 182 million euros to the French budget. It is planned that these funds will be used to implement environmentally friendly projects for the construction of railways. According to Deutsche Welle, Belgium and the Netherlands have similar plans.
