Official statistics from Canada showed that in March, retail sales in the country increased by 1.1% compared to February, when their rise was also noted. Growth was shown by 7 out of 11 sub-sectors. Gas stations increased sales by 6%. The index of sub-sectors of building materials and garden equipment increased by 4.3% over the month. Automobiles and spare parts were sold by 0.7% less than in February, while clothing and accessories stores increased the figure by 3.4%. In the first quarter, Canadian retail sector showed an increase of 0.1% against a decrease of 0.5% a quarter earlier. The index of retail sales in physical terms declined in the first quarter by 0.1%. The share of e-commerce sales in total retail sales rose to 3.1% from 2% in March 2016, when the release of their monthly statistics began.
