Economists had also predicted an annual increase in prices by 2%. The increase in prices in monthly terms was 0.2%. Without taking in the account energy, food and alcohol, consumer prices increased by 1% in annual terms. The price increase in annual terms in the European Union countries in August was 2.1% against 2.2% in July. Relative to the previous month, prices rose by 0.2%. The lowest growth rates of prices in annual terms were shown by Denmark - 0.8%, Ireland and Greece - 0.9%. The highest inflation was observed in Romania – 4.7%, and Bulgaria - 3.7%.
