In May of this year, the volume of retail sales in Canada increased by 2% compared to the previous month to 50 billion 756 million Canadian dollars, according to the statistics of the country. Experts had expected growth of only 1%. Compared to May 2017, retail sales grew by 3.6%. Excluding cars, the figure rose by 1.4% to 37 billion Canadian dollars, while analysts had predcited an increase of only 0.5%. Sales without cars in annual terms increased by 4.1%. According to another office for statistics, consumer prices in Canada increased by 2.5% in June on an annualized basis, after an increase of 2.2% in the previous month. Experts had predicted inflation at 2.3%.
