Retail sales in Canada fell by 0.9% in November after a slight increase in the previous month. Except for auto sales, retail sales declined by 0.6% in November, after declining by 0.2% in October. The fall in sales was noted in 75% of sectors of the economy. Sales at car refueling stations fell by 5% in November, for the third time in four months. Car dealers and parts dealers faced a 10.8% drop in sales. A 0.9% decrease in food sales was due to a drop in supermarket sales. General stores reported a 1.7% increase in sales. In general, the decline in sales was noted in eight provinces of the country. In Ontario, sales fell by 1.6%, in Quebec and Toronto - by 1.5%. In contrast, sales in Alberta rose 1.9%.
