The volume of retail sales in the euro area declined in July by 0.2% compared to the previous month, when the index rose by 1.5%, according to the data of Eurostat. Experts had predicted a decrease of 0.1%. Compared to the same month last year, retail sales in the euro area grew by 1.1% in July, while analysts had predicted growth of 1.3%. The sale of food, beverages and tobacco products in July fell by 0.6% compared to June. Excluding this category of goods, the indicator increased by 0.4%. The decrease was noted in the sales of motor fuel - by 0.7%, household appliances and furniture - by 1.3%. The growth was recorded in the sales of medicines - by 0.7%, clothing and footwear - by 1.4%.
