Retail sales in the euro area remained in May this year at the level of April, according to the data of the Statistical Office Eurostat. In comparison with May of the last year, the growth of retail sales was 1.4%. Experts had expected the first indicator to increase by 0.1%, the second one - by 1.5%. Compared to the previous month, retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco products increased by 1.1%. Sales of motor fuel did not change. The decrease in the sale of goods was observed in the category of non-food products – by 1%, textiles, clothing and footwear – by 3.1%, electrical appliances and furniture - by 0.6%, computer equipment - by 0.5%, pharmaceutical products – by 0, 6%.
