Retail sales in the UK increased in July by 0.7% compared to the previous month and by 3.5% in annual terms, according to the Office for National Statistics. Analysts had predicted the growth of the first indicator by 0.2%, the second one- by 3%. July's sales growth was facilitated by good weather and preservation of discounts in stores. Retail sales excluding motor fuel rose in July by 0.9% compared to June and by 3.7% compared to the same month last year. The increase in sales was observed in grocery stores by 0.9%, in clothing stores - by 1.9%. The sales of motor fuel fell by 2.2%. Decrease in sales by 2.1% was also observed in the stores of household goods.
