The World Steel Association reported that from the beginning of the year to May, the world produced 764.072 million tons of steel. Compared with the same period in 2018, its volume increased by 5%. The increase in steel output was recorded in Asia, Africa, and North America. Production in Asia has increased over the year by 7.4%. The growth in steel produced in China was 10.2%. African countries increased the rate by 9.3%, while the rate of the Middle East countries rose by 4.3%. Ukraine increased steel production by 6.8%, while Russia and Kazakhstan reduced their figures by 0.7% and 16.3%, respectively. The fall in steel production by 2.4% was also noted in the countries of the European Union. According to the association for 2018, steel production at the end of last year increased by 4.6%, amounting to about 1.809 billion tons.
