The Government of India, led by Narendra Modi, launched the world's largest health insurance program PMJAY, which is called Modicare, the Asia Times writes. The program provides health insurance to poor and vulnerable Indians at a rate of 500 thousand rupees a year. The healthcare system of Prime Minister Modi also envisages the creation of 150,000 health and wellness centers throughout India. The Prime Minister stressed that the health insurance program is not based on religious or caste principles. Its beneficiaries are more than 100 million poor and unprotected families in 26 Indian states. The expenses of the program, which will cost about 1 billion 600 million dollars a year, will be distributed between the federal government and state governments in the ratio of 60 to 40.
