Economist Ernie Tedeschi, who heads the tax analysis department of investment and consulting firm Evercore and previously worked in the US Treasury, believes that the minimum wage in the United States could reach the highest level in history amid several increases in cities and states over recent years. As the New York Times writes, the economist calculated that in 2019 the minimum wage in the country rose to 11.8 dollars per hour. The federal baseline minimum wage for 10 years remains at $7.25 per hour. Washington and 29 states have significantly increased this figure. So, in New York and Seattle, it grew to $15 per hour and higher. In the south of the country and the Midwest, the minimum is set at a federal level of $7.25 per hour. At the same time, the initial salary level for new employees in such large companies as Amazon and Costco is set at $15 per hour.
