In Germany, a record amount of living space was recorded, despite the lack of housing in major cities and agglomerations. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis, the number of housing units at the end of 2017 reached almost 42 million in the country. The number of apartments and single-family houses has increased by 3.7% since 2010. The total amount of living space in Germany at the end of last year amounted to 3 billion 900 million square meters. The ministry said that there are 46.5 square meters per average resident of the country, which is 3.3% more than in 2010.
