The Semiconductor Industry Association reported the first fall in global semiconductor sales since July 2016. The volume of their sales in January fell by 5.7% compared to the same month a year earlier, reaching $35 billion 470 million. The decline against December was 7.2%. Sales in this area showed a record level over the past 3 years. In 2018, they reached 469 billion dollars. In January of this year, sales growth for the month was noted only in Europe, where the figure rose by 0.2%. The remaining regions recorded the fall. Thus, in North and South America, sales decreased by 15.3%, in China - by 3.2%. Nevertheless, the Association is expecting a recovery in sales against the background of the continued demand for chips for artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, virtual reality and other products for which demand will grow.
